How physical symptoms can be a reflection of an internal struggle...

Last week I had severe acne on my lower cheek area after not having had any for a very long time. They were juicy, ugly and itchy pimples 😔

I believe that all physical discomfort is a way for our soul to communicate with us about our inner discomfort. Acne is something I have suffered with over many years and so having this sudden outbreak inspired me to share my personal findings on how to understand the underlying messages of physical symptoms, such as acne, when they arise. 😀

DISCLAIMER: Of course you need to drink a lot of water and cleanse your skin every morning and night for a healthy skin. In this newsletter I am only focusing on the inner blocks and emotions 🙂

3 Key Steps in Dealing with Physical Ailments as Reflections of Inner Discomfort

1. Recognise the silver lining

First, I want to start with the GOOD NEWS! Acne problems are a way of expressing your struggles (pain, overwhelm, stress, resentment) and getting them out of your system. All the emotions that we cannot express and keep inside are blocking our organs. It is better to have acne rather than holding those emotions in your organs, which creates more blockages in your system and can lead to worse diseases.

Therefore, you can start seeing them as your body's way of releasing your frustrations and struggles through your skin. Since studying the healing side of anatomy, I've learnt to when I am dealing with this problem to start by saying out loud, “Thanks for helping to cleanse through easy skin problems rather than blocking my organs”.

Action Item: Next time you have acne, start with a gratitude exercise and positive affirmations to your body such as “Thanks for helping me to release my struggles before they block my organs.”

2. Understand your history

When you look back, you will recognise some repetitions between when you get breakouts and when you are going through a period of struggle.

We attract similar situations in our life until we REALISE what we need to learn from that experience. Here I am sharing my personal story, in the hope that you can use it to realise yours.

  • My first major acne crisis happened during the age of 27-30 (not when I was teenager 😀). At the time I just going to a dermatologist for a solution, using various creams etc, but I found that most of these solutions were very uncomfortable, itchy and burning my skin. The treatments always took several weeks if not longer and were seen as temporary. No need to say, those years were the years I was stuck in an unfulfilling marriage 😔

  • My second biggest breakout came when I was 33. At this time, I was moving country and starting a new job. I had also just started dating someone that I really cared about, after my divorce, and we were having some difficulties and fights. During this time I suffered badly with acne on my chin and lower cheek area. I was not able to book a dermatologist here in Luxembourg (it takes 3-6 months to book one 😔) and so I used various homemade masks to try to heal it. During this time I also stopped drinking Turkish coffee, and after my mask trials I can’t say I was happy ( oh God, all the things we do to ourselves to feel pretty!)

  • This time round, I’m 36, and it’s hit me just a month before my marriage. To be honest, I was a bit shocked this time as I thought I had worked on our relationships issues a lot during my healing journey 😀

Action item: Journal about your acne history, try and remember what other issues were hurting you deeply at the same time. It could be related to your love relationship (like mine), your parents, your kids…

3. Recognise the emotions that are being blocked

Here I want to share a vital finding for my journey. I am also using this method a lot during my sessions with my clients. It is based on ideas behind traditional Eastern medicine and relates each part of the face to an organ. Remember that when we store our blocked emotions they usually get stored in the organs, not our skin, first:

  • Acne on lower cheek area ➡️ is related to your intestine

  • Acne on your forehead area ➡️is related to your liver

  • Acne on your chin area ➡️ is related to ovaries and hormones

Each of those organs are responsible for holding different emotions, therefore it is important to see the similarities in your acne areas. In my case, it is always my lower cheek area, therefore I am now going to share the emotion work related to the intestine.

Before I met you Gul, I was struggling with very low self-esteem, and a strong feeling of stress and anguish concerning the future. Guilt was also imprinted in me and was ruling my everyday life and actions. After th (1).png

I hope this story has helped you to learn more about your emotions and how to clear acne without heavy medication, creams or weird mask recipes going forward 😀
