How Meditation Changed My Life, And How It Can Change Yours Too!

In my last blog post, I shared my top 3 tips to tune in your inner voice by yourself!

  1. Meditate

  2. Walk

  3. Journal

As promised, I will share the insights that I collected during my journey related to meditation.
We all need to find a way to listen to our inner wisdom. This inner voice is defined differently in many cultures, religions, books, teachings… it has a different name; soul, light, the inner CEO, the captain, the God within…

The idea here is to realize deep inside you know what you need, however due to some external factors you’ve lost the ability to hear it when it speaks to you. It is one of the hot topics that I discuss with my clients. In the early stage of their journey, they usually say one of three things

  1. "But I can only hear it during the session..."

  2. "How do I distinguish what I hear? Maybe it is my ego or fear..."

  3. "I don’t have time..."

Here are my insights to guide you toward a place of daily meditation 🤗

1. It is a habit change, and yes - that takes time!

Meditation is ultimately a habit and forming new habits takes time, it is just a fact! When you start, your mind keeps talking because you are not comfortable with your own silence, you never tried it before. In this technological age let’s face it, we even go to the bathroom with our smartphone, we do not stop processing even there! All you need to do is keep the faith and practice, practice and practice. After some time, you start to take an observational seat, where you detach yourself from your mind. You just observe, and when you do not pay attention they just fade away… you start to feel a peaceful feeling where you can realize what you need (yes - it is just a feeling sometimes)

2. You will never find the 'perfect' time in busy daily life - so stop using that as an excuse!

If you keep procrastinating on meditation, with the excuse of ‘I don’t have time’, I am sorry, but you are either lying to yourself or you do not value yourself 😔

It is true that it is easy to meditate in a retreat in Bali; however, you need to find time in your daily life, where you have the real-life issues. You can be a busy corporate employee, a mum, an entrepreneur or you might live with others. All you need to find is 10 minutes during your day to invest in yourself. If you have more time, try taking longer meditations. However, if you have limited time, 10 minutes daily is enough to change your quality of life.

It is true that meditation is more effective in the morning as it sets the tone of the day. Still, doing it anytime is better than nothing! If I can’t meditate when I wake up, I usually use other slots during my day. That may look like during my commute to/from work (not applicable if you are driving), after I take a shower (love sitting with my towels for 10 min!), before going to sleep or on a plane (I travel 50% of my time)

3. There are various techniques when it comes to meditation, the best way to find the one for you is by trial and error.

There are so many types of meditation; using mantras, guided meditation, using music, just silence… They all work, however what’s important is to find out what attracts you the most. The best way is to try all of the different methods and decide. You can find many free meditations of all types on Youtube. I prefer guided meditations as my aim is to clear and balance my energy and I find that visualization helps it a lot. That being said, I do try other methods time to time based on my mood.

I am not sharing the science proving the benefits of meditation, as there are tremendous amounts of studies related to this topic. If you are of a skeptical mind, you can start reading research available online, here is a good place to start.

With Love,
Gül
