How Is The Current Situation Affecting Our Root Chakra?
Happy Wednesday!
Last week we had a live group session on the Root Chakra. Thank you to everyone who participated! The connection between us felt powerful.
I promised to share what we discussed during that session in this week’s blog and here it is … A summary of how to work with your root chakra.
In the live session, we dove deep into ROOT CHAKRA;
How the current situation of scarcity, lack of stability and security is affecting the ability to stay calm
5 Things that YOU CAN DO AT HOME BY YOURSELF that raises the energy flow in your root chakra
Live energy clearing, belief work and meditation
What does the Root Chakra Represent?
The Root Chakra, known as 1st Chakra, is located at the bottom of your spine. In simple words, it is where you connect with the ground or chair when you are in a seated position. This energy is based on the earth element, you can simply visualise your connection to this earth. It is responsible for safety and security as those are our basic needs.
In Sanskrit words, Root Chakra is Muladhara: Mula meaning “root” and Adhara, which means “support” or “base.”
How is the current situation affecting our Root Chakra?
You can think of root chakra as the solid foundation for our lives; basic needs such as food, shelter and fundamental feelings of security and survival.
There is a lot of noise on social media in terms of scarcity, lack of stability and chaos. You can read the news of businesses shutting down or simply someone can post "I couldn’t find fresh tomatoes in the supermarket'. Most of the noise is around lack and unknown; they are both affecting our survival senses. The fear of losing jobs and financial stability triggers our limiting beliefs about money, and in today’s world money is an energy that gives you security.
You may say “I am not reading social media and I am protecting myself, however, I still have those fears”. We are all affected by our surroundings. Maybe the company you worked for is on a hiring freeze period due to uncertainty or your partner is stressed about lack of money…As we are all energy, we resonate with similar fears more easily.
An imbalance in the root chakra creates a feeling of excessive negativity, the energy of survival mode rather than abundance. It is easier to lose our temper because we are scared and it is harder to balance. Those feelings may come as anxiety disorders, or nightmares. Considering the location of the root chakra, it triggers issues in your colon and bladder.
5 Things you can do at home by yourself to raise the energy flow of your Root Chakra
Grounding exercises and meditations would work better when you focus on the first 2 steps of self-realisation, otherwise, the effects might be temporary.
1. Acceptance
The last time that I felt a root chakra imbalance before COVID-19 was when I moved to Luxembourg. I could not ground myself and I did not feel settled into life here. I was doing grounding exercises to find balance. After living here for 3 years, spending a month in lockdown created this imbalance again. This is why I believe the first thing we need to find is ACCEPTANCE. Accept the situation and recognise that we are going through a difficult phase. Please realise acceptance does not mean being negative, it simply means accepting the reality. There is a lot of noise on "staying positive' and “making the most out of lockdown”, however, I feel that this adds to the stress.
It is harder to stay fully positive when you don’t have the physical space in a small house to be alone. On top of all the responsibilities we have at home and at work, even virtual tasks have started to stress people out. Right now, setting boundaries is more important than ever!
The best exercise you can do for ACCEPTANCE is to journal on “What is my current situation right now?” and “What stresses me out?
2. Set Healthy Boundaries
Lack of space and time is an issue that affects our ability to ground! When you understand your current situation then you can work on the areas that need improving. You can’t change the situation with COVID-19, however, you can voice what you need to ground! Last week, my beautiful colleague commented on working from home in our team meeting last week and it touched my heart: “She feels like working from home is working in 2 jobs and the new one is working in a non-stop restaurant at home where guests are not appreciating the fact that it is a 24/7 service”. I am sure this resonates with most you!
Being clear on your feelings and asking for what you need without trying to please others will help you ground easily. Remember that acknowledging your own needs is nothing to apologise for and when you communicate them clearly, it will help others to communicate their needs with you…
I highly recommend to journal it before talking because when you journal, you dump the frustration and anger and start to see the possible outcomes by yourself.
3. Root Chakra Grounding Meditation
Meditation
This grounding meditation is my favourite and I have been practising it for years! My motivation is to ground myself to mother earth. I am sharing my routine for you to follow and as promised in the live session. I recorded this one during the weekend and I will share it soon, very soon.
Start the meditation by closing your eyes
Focus on your breath
Focus on any areas with tension and to let go with the breath
Start by visualising a light from the universe gently entering through your head and goes down to all your feet
When you begin to visualise the light, embrace the colour you see, do not judge or try to change it
It is essential to go to all parts of the body as we did in the practice (if you feel the need to stay in one part of the body for longer, stay there and let the light and breathing take care of it)
When the light is at your feet, send it into the mother earth. See how mother earth connects and cleans the energy (I usually see myself as a ‘tree of life’, yes, I have this tattoo in my neck)
Stay there as if you are a tree. Send your roots into mother earth and breathe with your leaves. Connect deeper and deeper and feel the sensation in your root chakra
Before you finish take this fresh, clean energy back to your body and carry it to the top of your head
Here it is important to visualise that you leave any stress, pain, darkness to the mother earth and take back only pure light and energy
Here is my favourite music when I work on root chakra
Walking in nature
If you have the option to walk in nature, you can also visualise the same steps while you are on a walk. With each step feel that your roots are connecting with the trees and you start to feel them as they clear away your stress and balance your energy!
4. Realise your Beliefs Related to Abundance
I mentioned the lack of money and abundance is related to our first chakra. You can choose to be mindful when recognising your abundance story. During the day when you say something related to money or abundance, just write it down – notice it. Journal about it when you have the time. On my journey, I noticed that during my sessions I kept saying, “You need to work hard to earn money”.
I realised this was my mother’s voice and her beliefs. I forgave her and her story and changed to believe that “Money comes easily to me”. The best way to shift beliefs by yourself is by acknowledging them and using affirmations. My favourite affirmations on abundance are “I have all the abundance in the world” and “Money is an energy and it comes easily to me”.
They resonate with me because I like the idea of seeing all the abundance in the world. The abundance of health, food, love and I adore the word EASE! Write down your beliefs and change them with the words that really speak to your heart!
5. Use the energy of colours, crystals or stones
I have to say I did not believe the energy of colours before. It took me some time to realise that you can feel the difference when you mindfully use the colours. I find the best part of using colours is that it reminds me to repeat mantras and affirmations such as “I am safe, I am grounded, I am abundant’. You can also use crystals and stones to balance energy. Place the stone on the area of the chakra while lying down. I like using smoky quartz, however other recommended stones for root are black tourmaline, bloodstone and red jasper.
I lead group sessions intuitively and it is not possible to share the full experience of energy clearings, belief work and meditation through the blog. Hope this post motivates you to ground! Keep reading the blog and sign up to my newsletter to find out when the next group session will be.
