How mindfulness in the workplace can improve employee engagement
Happy December! We are ending this year soon...If you are looking ahead to 2022 and planning what to do as the year ends, this news might inspire you
This week, I hosted a Mindfulness Workshop at Amazon European Headquarters for a team of 300 employees. If you have been following me, you might guess why today is emotional.
It is an emotional blog post because...
For those who just started following me, I am ex-Amazonian. I worked in that amazing company for almost 4.5 years. Prior to that, I have worked with other large corporations like P&G and Coca-Cola.
After 15 years in a corporate career, I left; I left my job to build my own coaching & healing practice…
One part of me loved working in the corporate world…I learned a lot, gained life-long skills, met amazing people, made life-time friends (I even my soulmate ), and used my salary to invest on myself…
I'm not one of those people who was dying to leave their unsatisfactory job — I just reached a point where I couldn’t handle both paths and I needed to make a choice.
Transformation is my deepest calling (I am a bit obsessed with self-healing). So, of course, I chose the path of devoting my full time to Purposeful Vibes!
I ended the chapter of my corporate life and another door opened…
I was just hired by a corporate company as a “transformation coach” to their Senior Managers. Even though, I told the human resources that I don’t do business coaching, my niche is Transformational Energy coaching which is an intimate spiritual journey! What are the odds! Her reply was simple, “as long as our employees happy and engaged, if they want to work with you we are happy to invest”.
I was invited by my ex employer to run Mindfulness sessions as a consultant for a personal development day. I was running similar workshops while I was working there as a hobby. Thanks to feedbacks and evaluation process based on data, I am invited back to support leaders on bringing mindfulness and mental health awareness to their teams.
In January 2021, almost a year ago now, I shared my insights on why managers should consider practicing Mindfulness at work (in a newsletter like this one). Here is a quick summary of WHY...
The corporate world is starting to open up to the subject of mindfulness in a new and different way.
Since Covid, there has been an even bigger shift towards mindfulness and employee mental health. With employees in lockdown at their houses, it has become harder to help them with stress.
Most employees are juggling various responsibilities as they work from home: home schooling, cooking, cleaning…
Therefore, more of us are looking for new ways and resources that can help us to
- become motivated to start the day working at home
- differentiate various aspects of our life and work at home
- balance yourselves with distractions, noises, the media
Having this sudden new need has shifted senior leadership’s perspective to look at alternative methods for supporting their employees.
People are not shy to share their struggles and ask questions
More leaders are paving the way to share their vulnerability and sharing what worked for them with their teams.
When Covid hit, we were in a similar situation, the idea of “we are in the same boat” became more present. As more leaders are vocal on their struggles and methods that helped them, they gave more space to their employees to share too.Generation Z is in the house.
I also believe that the increase of Generation Z as employees in the corporate world is shifting the needs of the Human Resources. Yay to the new generation!
Specials Thanks to the coaches who trained my coaching education with Co-Active Coaching and certification process with International Coaching Federation; Leonard, Yara and Virginia…They were the ones who inspired me to be a “spiritual coach’ after observing my sessions.
Although they are leadership coaches, who have worked with corporates and governments for decades, each of them advised me to own my psychic gifts and combine both worlds… I know you are reading this newsletter, please know that you are in my gratitude list…
With Love,
Gül
P.S If you are wondering what is the topic of the Mindfulness Workshop that I run today, it is about procrastination, fears and anxiety and how to overcome. I will share this topic with a podcast interview with clear step and tools next week If you are planning a Personal-Development or Team event day and need some advice , feel free to reach out for a chat!
